Abbott Lynn looked at the number of Instagram hashtags, proposal tweets, Google search volume, and proposal posts on TripAdvisor to discover the most popular spots, with the blushing fiancees posting their proposal pics on Insta, tweeting their exciting news, and generally Commitment on the Internet raves about them.

The best place to propose was Central Park in New York. New York City’s legendary Central Park covers a massive 843 acres and features many stunning locations for proposals, including lakes, gardens, pavilions and even a castle!

The locations were chosen by searching online for locations that were frequently cited as good locations for a proposal. Instagram hashtag data was found by searching location plus engagement (e.g. #centralparkengagement).

Tweets were calculated as the amount of tweets containing the word “Engagement” that were geotagged to location in the last 12 months.

Search interest is based on Google Trends data for the last 12 months, selecting the highest search interest for engagements within that timeframe. TripAdvisor Posts is the number of forum posts in the location that mention “Engagement”.
