On May 11, 2023, Etsy launched its own wedding registry, Etsy Registry, a brand new wedding gift platform that allows couples to register the most meaningful gifts.

Since its inception in 2005, Etsy has long been known as the sourcing destination for handmade, vintage, sentimental, and meaningful gifts while supporting small businesses.

In addition to all these beautiful gifts, couples can also register for personalized items in the Etsy registry and even request an exact customization for their guests to purchase.

After researching trends in the wedding gift industry, Etsy saw a huge 872% increase in searches on Etsy for handmade gifts. This shows that friends and family are choosing to move away from standard, mass-produced gifts and instead focus on those that have more thought and purpose behind them.

As fans of Queer EyeThe Wedding Ideas team was very excited to learn that the first to try the new Etsy registry was a TV personality and Queer Eyes Food and wine expert Antoni Porowski and his fiancé created their perfect wedding gift list. To help you get started on your very own list on the Etsy Registry, Etsy has published their 2023 Wedding Trends Guide. And it looks like this year, couples are putting the fun and creative implementation of long-standing traditions at the forefront of their very own, bespoke day.

We had Cottagecore, Regencycore (thanks Bridgerton) and now even Barbiecore, which is chasing the hype surrounding Greta Gerwig’s upcoming movie, but in the wedding world, it’s the lovecore aesthetic that’s taking the industry by storm.

Lovecore is a trend characterized by heart patterns, roses and the colors red and pink – all very loving and we’re obsessed! When it comes to Lovecore-inspired decorations, there was a 21% increase in searches for heart-themed invitations and an 18% increase in searches for pink menus.

And it’s not just decor that nearly married couples are looking for, but brides feel the love when it comes to their looks too. Actually in the last three months EtsyThere was a 22% increase in searches for pink morganite or moissanite engagement rings and a 19% increase in searches Etsy for pink bridal items and a 14% increase in searches for pink or red veils.

Oversized flowers

Outside of weddings, too, oversized floral appliques are gaining popularity – as seen in Zara and Sofia Richie’s after-party wedding dress. They are great for adding some drama to a wedding look and add the perfect touch to an outdoor or garden wedding.

On Etsy, searches for floral wedding dresses (which we love) are up 78%, while searches for 3D floral veils and 3D floral dresses are up 35% and 32%, respectively. Searches for this year’s on-trend floral choker are up 159% – a versatile style that can be worn well beyond the big day.

Western Weddings

This trend is really fun, think part coastal cowgirl and part Las Vegas elopement. The uber cool western wedding trend is gaining popularity as a relaxed and bohemian style that allows couples to have fun on their big day while encouraging guests to dress code wisely.

On Etsy, there was a 40% increase in Etsy searches for western wedding dresses, a 21% increase in Etsy searches for fringed dresses, and a 19% increase in Etsy searches for western wedding items.

Cowboy hats are also very popular, especially the fringed and rhinestone-trimmed styles, which are considered a must-have accessory for Instagrammable bachelorette parties. There was a whopping 1,334% increase in searches for disco cowboy and cowgirl hats on Etsy.

Love Story Gifts

What could be a more thoughtful gift than receiving a customized item that celebrates the couple’s very personal love story? There was a 71% increase in Etsy searches for personalized recipe boxes, a 65% increase in Etsy searches for customized couple portraits, and a 37% increase in Etsy searches for customized song charts.

Rings with character

Forget your usual engagement rings and wedding bands, it seems couples are opting for more unusual pieces that reflect their individualism and personality. In fact, the search for solitaire and diamond engagement rings has decreased dramatically. In the last three months, there has been a 253% increase in searches for handmade engagement rings on Etsy.

Alternative gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds or even black diamonds are growing in popularity, as are unexpected stone arrangements and vintage rings steeped in history and antique craftsmanship.

Etsy saw an 82% increase in searches for turquoise sapphire engagement rings, a 63% increase in searches on Etsy for “toi et moi” (two stone) engagement rings, a 25% increase in searches for vintage wedding rings, and a 11% increase is looking for East West engagement rings.

In recent years we’ve noticed that brides have opted for a simpler wedding dress paired with beautiful statement accessories, whether it’s an elegant gown paired with dramatic drop earrings or a cathedral-length embroidered veil – today’s brides pay attention to the details.

Etsy saw a 109% increase in searches for wedding gloves, a 23% increase in searches for white sunglasses, and a 15% increase in searches for personalized bridal bags.

When it comes to veils, brides place a high value on customization and often incorporate sentimental details that can be remembered as keepsakes for years to come, such as initials and the wedding date. On Etsy, there was a 78% increase in searches for embroidered veils, 28% for custom veils, and 15% for cathedral-length veils.
