We all love bridesmaids! These beautiful women are an integral part of every wedding and stand by us with a smile on one of the most beautiful days of our lives.

They are our trusted friends who help make the day even more special and support the bride every step of the way. However, not all bridesmaids are the same!

To celebrate National Bridesmaid Day on March 25th, Fizzbox has compiled a list of the best movie bridesmaids of all time… and the worst.

National Bridesmaids Day: The Best and Worst Movie Bridesmaids

BEST: Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda dating Sex and the City: The Movie (2008)

What is Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) without Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda? At least when we talk about it Sex and the Citynot the reboot And just like that! Her three bridesmaids are Carrie’s Ride or Die Besties and are by her side throughout the film, even if the groom isn’t! They also look fabulous in their red, blue and black Zac Posen dresses. These ladies set the gold standard for on-screen friendships.

What can bridesmaids learn from them? Loyalty. Reliability. Put the bride’s needs first.

favorite quote: Carrie: “Year after year, my single girlfriends have been my salvation.”

THE WORST: Annie from Bridesmaids (2011)

This film is a guide to what not to do as a bridesmaid! Annie (Kristen Wiig) is the ultimate maid of dishonour, derailing most of the film’s wedding events. No doubt the character is going through some tough times, but she’s so threatened by marrying Lillian and her chic new friend Helen that she can’t stop sabotaging, with hilarious results.

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Don’t make the wedding just about yourself. Choose restaurants carefully to avoid food poisoning!

favorite quote: Lillian: “They’re such a stone cold pack of lunatics, and I’m so proud.”

BEST: Jane from 27 Dresses (2008)

Jane (Katherine Heigl) is the ultimate bridesmaid. She’s been a bridesmaid a whopping 27 times and even attended two weddings in one night. That’s commitment! But there’s a catch to the job when she’s asked to be maid of honor at her sister’s wedding, who happens to be marrying Jane’s boss – who she’s also in love with! And don’t forget Kevin, a cynical journalist who writes an exposé about Jane’s wedding obsession.

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Be super organized. Wear every bridesmaid’s dress with pride, even the hideous ones!

favorite quote: Kevin: “Love is patient, love is kind, love is slowly losing your mind.”

THE WORST: Jules from My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

This is an absolute classic! Jules (Julia Roberts) is asked to be Maid of Honor, but there’s a small problem; She is in love with the groom, who happens to be her longtime best friend. Get ready for an epic level of intrigue, a toe-smashing karaoke session and an amazing soundtrack as Jules attempts to sabotage the wedding and steal the groom.

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Don’t try to steal the groom!

favorite quote: Jules: “I have exactly four days to blow up a wedding, steal the brides boy, and I have no idea how to go about it.”

BEST: Cher from Clueless (1995)

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is a heaven-sent bridesmaid clueless, who not only looks stunning in a bubblegum pink mini, but also primarily lifts up the bride and groom. Cher initially encouraged the romance of her two teachers to help her grades, but seriously invested in their romance (“old people can be so cute!”). Special mention for how much she and Dionne rock the ’90s bridesmaid look.

What can bridesmaids learn from her? You can help love blossom. That life is full of opportunities to improve.

favorite quote: Cher: “She’s my girlfriend because we both know what it’s like when people are jealous of us.”

THE WORST: Becky from Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)

Ok, this is really bad. Becky (Isla Fisher) is asked by her best friend Suze to be a bridesmaid. But Becky has a serious shopping addiction that is ruining her life. She even sells her bridesmaid dress and later buys another dress back. Shocking! She eventually gets the dress back, but gifting something so important to the bride is a big no no at any point!

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Pay attention to your bridesmaid dress. Protect it with your life!

favorite quote: Becky: “You said I was a valued customer. Now they send me hate mail.”

BEST: Alice from Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011)

Who could forget when the immortal couple of everyone on screen got married? Whether you were a fan of dusk or not, you can’t deny this franchise’s impact on pop culture. Bella and Edward’s wedding was planned by Alice, the chief bridesmaid and Edward’s sister. She organized everything including the heavenly decorations, the guest list and even the dress. What a champion!

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Arrange wedding items that the bride and groom will love.

favorite quote: Alice: Weddings. You bring everyone together.”

THE WORST: Alice from Rough Night (2017)

We saved the worst for last! Killing a male stripper and trying to dispose of his body has to be one of the worst things a bridesmaid can do, right? And that’s exactly what Alice (Jillian Bell) does with the help of the other evil bridesmaids. Bride-to-be Jess (Scarlet Johansson) is running for public office, so what could go wrong?

What can bridesmaids learn from her? Be very gentle with male strippers! Try to avoid damaging the bride’s reputation.

favorite quote: Jess: “I thought I would make people’s lives better, but I’ve forgotten the people who make my life better, and that’s you.”

To mark National Bridesmaids Day, Butlers in the Buff and Hen Heaven, two of the UK’s largest hen party providers, have teamed up to talk to real-life bridesmaids to explore the stress and hassles that come with the job , and will share some top tips on being a great bridesmaid.

As the end of March approaches, this study shows that March 25 has proven to be the busiest day of the year for hen party bookings — a day when bridesmaids freak out that the bachelorette party is almost upon them, and they don’t book have the things they should have.

The research also found these facts and figures:

  • The average woman between the ages of 25 and 35 goes to 8 hen parties in her lifetime.
  • The average age at marriage has increased to 30 for women and 32 for men.
  • The role of a bridesmaid originated centuries ago when friends of the bride dressed exactly like the bride in order to confuse evil spirits ready to snatch the bride from her purpose.
  • The sentence ‘often a bridesmaid but never a bride‘ comes from a 1924 advertisement for mouthwash.
  • The well-known bridesmaid curse ‘three times a bridesmaid, never a bride‘ can be broken by being a bridesmaid seven times.

Arianwen Morris from Oxford talks about her experience of being a bridesmaid in real life: “Being a bridesmaid is a big commitment. It takes up a lot of your time and a significant part of your finances as well.

You spend hour after hour organizing the hen party, answering guests’ questions, shopping for gifts and decorations, planning hen party games, and traveling to and from reunions. My top tip would be to always keep the bride’s tastes in mind.

If I had a magic wand, I would use it to ensure that the people invited to the bachelorette party respond to my emails with a direct and definitive response within 20 minutes when I rank them based on their availability and preferences ask for the event.

Hen Heaven wants to be that ‘magic wand’, taking all the stress out of booking accommodation, activities and even helping with budgeting. Members of the group can individually pay their share directly to Hen Heaven, relieving the bridesmaid of chasing money from friends.

At the actual hen party, the bridesmaids should be able to sit back and relax while they watch all their hard work pay off, but that’s often not the case as they have to walk around to make sure everyone is taken care of. Butlers in the buff offer a solution by having a butler or two in the buff to ease the strain of serving drinks and hosting party games.
