The history: Many couples have not had the luxury of satiating their wanderlust in recent years as many destination weddings have been postponed or even canceled due to the COVID pandemic. The big idea behind this shoot was to show how carefully chosen details and tasteful themes can transport you from your local venue to anywhere at your wedding. In this case we will be transported from Baddow Park House in Essex to the beautiful Amalfi Coast.
The site: Baddow parking garage is a secluded country estate originally built in 1893 and recently restored to its former glory. It’s the perfect blend of tradition and modernity, with multiple outdoor spaces for outdoors moments. The modern and bright orangery, complete with lighting and built-in bar, is the perfect place to bring the outdoors in. The original historic home is also ideal for curling up later in the evening and accommodating some of your wedding guests.
The mood: A gentle and relaxed feast for the senses. The key elements that create this look are the details – the Italian-inspired design on the rug, the beads on the shoes, the lasso-style necklaces and the trolley loaded with Italian delicacies.
The detail: The color palette was inspired by the Amalfi Coast ━ the zesty yellow of the huge fresh lemons grown and sold roadside and the limoncello they are used to make, and the blue of the radiant sea and the hand-painted tiles and decorative plates that are sold in shops. Rather than using bright tones throughout the floral design, yellows and blues have been incorporated through the use of softer blue delphinium and oxypetalum alongside creamier lemon yellow roses and lisianthus, complemented by various other soft cream colored flowers and green foliage to create a more relaxed and inviting feel. Adorned with flowers and fresh lemons, the eye-catching, modern three-tiered cake brings the Mediterranean theme to life, adorned with a hand-drawn tile design on the lower tier. The hand-painted tableware, reminiscent of the authentic pieces sold on the Amalfi Coast, perfectly complements the Italian al fresco ambience.
Tips & Highlights:
- attention to detail. The elegant yellow sapphire engagement ring, the details of the themed stationery, the cake, the combination of glassware and themed tableware, the pops of color in the bridesmaids’ dresses and makeup, and all the other little touches create a story.
- Keep it understated with pops of color. It can be easy to get carried away and overwhelm the senses with a subject. Incorporating “themed” details alongside classic and softer elements helps reflect a more relaxed and sophisticated style.
- Find a versatile venue. If you’ve decided on a Mediterranean theme but can’t get where you want to go, think about what you love about the destination and how you can bring those elements to a place that’s closer to home.
