The history: Pro golfer Petrus chose to marry his high school sweetheart Stefany in a place where they could celebrate the natural beauty of their native South Africa and his love of golf!
The site: Smitsfield farm, South Africa. This unique, award-winning venue is full of beautiful architectural details. These include the property’s fifteen luxuriously renovated rooms, set in old wooden railway carriages. The Bridal Suite, refurbished from an old Victorian era freight wagon. The property is a family run business on the River Vaal and offers breathtaking views dotted with majestic oak trees.
The atmosphere: Minimalist country wedding with a focus on nature, complemented by a white and green color palette. Because the venue was such a unique location, they focused on a natural, timeless and minimalistic look to make the venue shine. The couple married in the on-site chapel built in 1924.
The details: The floral design continued the “theme” of natural and minimalist beauty, using different types of greenery such as herbaceous eucalyptus leaves. Daisies were used throughout the wedding venue as they are Stefany’s favorite flower and also symbolize the couple’s beloved puppy, “Daisy”, who walked down the aisle with Stefany’s sister and was the ring bearer.
Tips & Highlights:
- Don’t overthink things. Do what works best for you and your partner and enjoy every moment as time really flies.
- The food was one of the standout elements of this wedding that all the guests raved about. Remember to take the time to sit down and eat and enjoy your wedding meal. So many couples completely miss out on enjoying the incredible food at their own wedding.
- Petrus and Stefany really enjoyed the space their venue offered for a dance floor. Her advice to other couples: “Be last on the dance floor because this is your only wedding night.”
