The history: Samuel and Meghan met through the popular dating app bumblebee! They met in a cozy bistro on a cold January evening and hit it off immediately. Some time later, in the spring of 2019, Samuel took Meghan to one of her favorite gardens in Charleston, South Carolina. While admiring all the beautiful blooms, he got on one knee and proposed. The couple originally planned a larger wedding, but the pandemic has forced them to downsize to a micro wedding and limit their guest list to just six guests (immediate family only).

The site: the Vanderbilt Mansion is an impressive home built for the aristocratic Vanderbilt family. Designed for Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt, this stately home in Hyde Park in Midpoint, New York is an understated masterpiece of American design. This venue was special for our couple as it is located in Meghan’s hometown.

The atmosphere: Timeless black and white with a few peach accents. Meghan, herself a wedding seller, wanted to keep things classic and stylish and let the stunning scenery do the talking.

The details: Sam and Meghan focused on the finer details, splurging on things like their luxurious paper products Bella Figura This included a watercolor comb featuring the couple’s two cats. Meghan wanted her bouquet to be white with lots of greenery and a few peach dabs, but also made sure to include her beloved dahlias. For their wedding cake, Meghan and Sam chose a dainty, tiered mini cake modeled after the larger version they originally wanted at their larger wedding. It was frosted carrot paying homage to the lace of Meghan’s wedding dress and topped off with some fresh flowers. For their wedding favors, they kept it simple with a monogrammed envelope filled with confetti and a packet of seeds for planting wildflowers.

Tips and Highlights:

• One of the benefits of a small wedding is intimacy. This wedding was all about our lovers. It was her, her immediate family and the vendors. This small group had the entire property to themselves and was able to enjoy the unique experience of exchanging vows in private overlooking the Long Island Sound.

• The ceremony was personal and so sentimental. Meghan believes their vows were so much more special due to the intimacy of their wedding.
• Planning a wedding during a pandemic can be difficult. Some advice from the bride: “Don’t give in to pressure about what you think is ‘right.’ Celebrate your wedding your way with the friends and family you cherish. I would not change anything about my micro wedding.”
