The history: Alex and Elizabeth’s wedding in Texas was all about her timeless elegance, but in a unique way. In true Texas style, it was a larger than life celebration. The idea was to combine classic elements with a bit of untamed, whimsical wildness.
The site: Mason Dallas is a 10,000 square foot historic building dating from 1920. It was designed by noted Dallas architect Herbert M. Greene (Belo Mansion, Dallas National Bank Building). Almost a century later, the building has been carefully transformed into a special event space full of opulent and unexpected details. If you are considering holding your wedding at this location, be aware that you will need a professional wedding coordinator set to manage the day of the event.
The atmosphere: Dramatic urban sophistication. The styling of this wedding matched the grandeur of its venue. A grand formal bridal shower in luxe fabrics paired with warm autumnal vibes.
The details: The color palette is inspired by nature and combines dark green, mauve and light pink. This was set against a surprisingly modern black background accented with gold. The black theme was reflected in the bridesmaid dresses really let the unstructured nature of their bouquets stand out. Whimsical little touches were added to delight Alex and Elizabth’s guests, like the fun coffee cart from night owl That served up your usual brew plus some stronger options like the Maple Bourbon Latte.
Tips & Highlights:
- Something borrowed for her, Elizabeth tapped into her family history. 43 years ago, her parents were married in Nebraska, where flower options were limited. They used a bouquet of pheasant feathers. Elizabeth borrowed this idea with pheasant feathers in her own bouquet as a nod to their enduring love.
- Think about how you can carry a motif theme throughout your wedding styling. The pheasant feathers used in Elizabeth’s bouquet were also subtly incorporated into the flowers on the memoriam table and Alex’s buttons and cufflinks.
- If you want a wedding guest book to record congratulations but don’t like the idea of a traditional book, there are many alternatives. Alex and Elizabeth took a novel approach by having their guests sign old records.
