Laura Suttie, Design Consultant at Queensmith, said: “There’s really something magical about a fall or winter wedding.

“Autumn and winter naturally offer vibrant colors and the darker evenings allow for a cozier atmosphere accentuated by foliage, fairy lights and candles.”

To identify the top flowers for the season, data was collected based on the number of flowers’ hashtags on Instagram and the search volume of fall bouquets over the past 12 months.

1. Roses

With over 30 million hashtags, Classic Roses ranks first as the wedding flower with the most Instagram photos. There are many reasons why this beautiful bloom dominates Instagram.

With a little TLC, roses are available year-round and also come in many different colors, from romantic pastels, bright and vibrant colors in the summer months, to the classic Valentine’s red.

2. Sunflower

Sunflowers are the second most photogenic wedding flowers with over 10.3 million hashtags.

Although these large, sunny yellow blooms are associated with the summer season, sunflowers come in 70 different varieties, some of which can withstand the winter months. Sunflowers can be the perfect autumnal addition to any wedding, with more unusual rusty colors becoming available.

3. Orchid

In third place is the exquisite and elegant orchid with 5 million hashtags. As well as being popular wedding flowers for bridal bouquets and centerpieces, orchids are one of the UK’s most popular houseplants, making beautiful housewarming gifts.

4. Eucalyptus

Fourth place goes to the fragrant eucalyptus with 1.9 million Instagram hashtags. These are a wonderful way to fill up your fall bouquet as the green foliage looks perfect amongst fall colors.

5. Daisies

In fifth place is daisies with 1.4 million hashtags – and dried bouquets are a beautiful choice for fall wedding flowers – plus they’re a lot cheaper than fresh flowers!

6. Lilies

Lilies are a beautiful choice for your fall wedding bouquet all year round, although we particularly like the orange hue as a nod to fall.

7. Hydrangea

The beautiful hydrangea makes for the perfect autumn bouquet and comes in a range of beautiful shades.

8. Dahlias

Dahilas are a cute choice for a laid-back boho wedding, and their long flowering times mean they’re easier to source than other varieties.

9. Sweet Peas

Sweet peas are a timeless choice for wedding bouquets any time of year and add a classic look to fall celebrations.

10. Chrysanthemums

Some of the most popular fall flowers are chrysanthemums, which are often tied to the arrival of fall as they are one of the most popular flowers at this time of year, meaning they are cheaper and easier to source for your fall wedding.

Other popular options include lilacs and thistles. While roses and sunflowers have been lauded as the most popular wedding flowers, research has also named and shamed the flowers to avoid.

Hypericum is the least popular plant for a fall and winter wedding (with just 8.1k searches), and lisianthus flowers and freesia were also found at the bottom of the pile.
